My brother-in-law sent me this pic of this "Union Caboose" stove, turns out it belonged to his dad. It's located in northern Vermont, but he doesn't know where his dad got it. There doesn't seem to be too much information on the web about these. Our question is: Is there any way to tell which railroad it came from, and what general era? Thanks!

(and yes, that is a miniature cannon sitting atop the stove, and yes it works and has been fired!)

It has a bit of the look of an "Estate Stove" -- especially the base with it's dual vents. The top looks like the "Estate" two burner and there may be words cast into the top to the effect "tell others if you like me".

Sometimes the RR line markings were cast into the base which typically differed from other stoves in that they required anchoring via bolts through the base and flooring.

The "Estate Stove" in our UP 3700 caboose at Heber Valley differs in that it has the winged wheel cast into the side hinged door.

The Union Stove Works existed in New York in the late 1800's...I've read of stoves dated in the 1870's.
