At the EBT, we are attending to the interior of the buildings as well.
Over the past several years, leakage from old skylights in the Machine Shop has caused a section of floor to rot to the point it had to be roped off from the public tours in the Shops. This prevented visitors from seeing the steam driven Air Compressor, Hydrostatic Pump, Axle Lathe and several other pieces.
In early 2003, the FEBT Rockhill Restoration Crew started work on this by removing the loose equipment in the area and the rotted floor boards. Over two sessions, the debris and soil that had accumulated under the floor was removed and hauled away. The railroad employees then installed a great looking new floor that matches the original. Since then, traffic on the floor is quickly "weathering" it to match the original.
I offer my apologies for the low quality of the photos, but the dimly lit shops interior is a difficult place for photography.
