I just purchased a three-piece uniform offered as "from the 50s" It has lapel pins and UP buttons throughout. Where can I see what else conductors of this era wore on the UP? I assume there was a tie, shirt and maybe a cap. Are there books that address the topic?

I am not aware of a book that specifically addresses the uniforms themselves, but there is a book on the conductors buttons. It is self published by Donal Van Court and is still available. The book is well written and a super reference for people interested in railroad history. I can pass his name and address on to you, if you are interested. By the way, check the UP buttons on the uniform. Is the last N of UNION backwards? If so, then you have some rare UP uniform buttons. If not, they are still a really nice collectible.
