I am trying to find a service manual or other such literature to aid in the repair of a circa 1950's electro-mechanical air conditioning system built by The Safety Car Heating and Lighting Company. This system uses an evaporative condenser mounted under the car. I am particularly in need of a piping schematic. If anyone has anything that may help me get this system back into operation, please send me an e-mail at: thewises@vci.net. Scanned information very much welcomed.

Thank you in advance.

Dear Brian,

You may want to try to post your request on the following Yahoo Groups: http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/RRcarowners/ and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PassengerCarList/ as both of these lists are populated by those who may have either the documentation you are looking for or own similar equipment. You also may want to contact Illinois Transit Assembley http://iltransit.com/ as their owner, Les Kasten, may have this information on hand. Finally, you may want to look at a car-builders cyclopedia from close to the date your car was built, as this book published many such diagrams.

I hope that one of these contacts proves fruitful. Please keep the board and me informed on what happens. It is nice to hear of somebody who is willing to work with the old equipment for a change!

Tom,
Thank you very much for those great ideas. I had not thought of the railroad car owners groups. I have had a response from one fellow who may be able to provide me with the schematics that I need, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My willingness to work on this old stuff is out of necessity rather than a interest in such stuff. Personally, I'd rather be rolling tubes in a boiler, but we all have to do what needs to get done when the need arises!

regards,
Brian Wise
