Chicago, Ft. Wayne & Eastern Railroad

With the announcement that the ex PRR Fort Wayne line is now a new regional (Chicago, Ft. Wayne & Eastern Railroad) I am wondering if there's a chance #765 will have a place to romp close to home?

The guys losing their jobs probably don't think it's so great. Shortlines often let the track deteriorate soon after acquisition, and often aren't any more amenable to steam operations than the class ones. ==================================================

These lines are being LEASED from CSX. That means any excursion operator will still have to meet CSX insurance requirements.

Um, pardon the ignorance, but where does this line run to and from? Was this part of "The Pandhandle" at one point?

This is the ex- Pittsburgh Ft. Wayne and Chicago, PRR's Main Line from Pittsburgh to Chicago. The track is straight, was once in excellent condition and is where PRR E2 7002 (I) ran 127.1 MPH and later S1 6100 ran at unmeasured speeds.

John Crosby fired passenger over this line and wrote an article for Trains about a trip at over 120 MPH with a T1 between "ESTRY" (Van Wert) and "ADAMS" (E. End Ft. Wayne)

What would be really nice would be for AMTRAK to get the $$$ to repair this line and get off CSX & NS.

Interesting web site to read up on more of the history on the PRR's Crestline/Ft.Wayne/Chicago
racetrack @ the Crestline Roundhouse Facility web site.
At one time the Pittsburgh/Chicago PRR main was 2-3 and 4 track main line high iron.
