Anybody going to Pennsy Days?

A group of us from the Wilmington & Western will be headed up to the Strasburg and RRMofPA on Saturday, June 5th. Will any of you be going? It would be neat to see some fellow posters from RYPN. Kurt, will you be around on Saturday? Haven't seen you since you spoke at last year's banquet -- hope to shoot the breeze with you. Would be cool to run into Linn and/or Kelly if you guys will be around. Take care. Seth

Hi Seth,
Great to hear that the W&W guys are coming up to Strasburg this Saturday. Unfortunately I have another committment on Saturday, but will be presenting my slide program on the history of the SRC (the one I gave at HRCV's banquet last year) on Sunday during Pennsy Days. I stopped by the W&W for a visit this past Sunday and took a ride on the 12:30 train. I finally got to see your new shop building--a big improvement! I'm really impressed at the how the W&W has come along in the last ten years; it is a strong, healthy organization with very good, capable people. It will also be exciting to see 58 and 98 together under steam in the near future. Keep up the good work!

I know your big Strasburg show at the RRM is over, but what about a Strasburg R. R. weekend with some of the founders to talk about the trials and tribulations of getting a steam short line up and running in the 1960's.

SRC could run the 31/7312 that weekend or even do up a photo freight in the AM before passsenger service starts.

I've always thought SRR should have a big railfan weekend, it would be really neat to steam up all 4 locos on the same day (I don't know if they have the crews to do that, but if anyplace does they would). I've always thought they should do someting like that in the fall after the peak tourist season was over. Just a thought if anyone from SRR is reading this, I'd be there in a second, and I'm sure we'd all be willing to pay for photo trains, etc. They are short enough to make the event fairly easy contain, but have the structure (track, etc) to put on a really good show.

Great idea! There are many among us who consider ourselves "Strasburg fans" as much as fans of any railroad. Certainly, a Strasburg weekend could satisfy the restoration buffs, preservations buffs and ... of course... the foamer in us all. Lynn, whaddaya think?

We have had various railfan events in the past. They have not been too successful for a couple of reasons. First, not too many people paid to ride - they just took photos. Second, we are a very accessible railroad and we had quite a bit of trouble with a minority of folks taking liberties with our neighbors' farmland.

Of late we have begun operating photo freights for individuals and we hope to continue this in the future. It has solved our two major problems with railfan oriented activities.

With that in mind, I would say - support your local photo freight operator.

Looks like SRC has had foamer problems.

It still might work similar to PRR & RDG days with the displays and talks inside RRM with SRC running its regular service.

HORNS INC. will be making it's annual appearence at PRR. DAYS Strasburg, Pa. Saturday June 5th. I will be doing horn demo's with PRR. Horns every hour on the hour, as well as a display inside near the shoe shine rack.

PRR. Horns demonstrated-----
Leslie A-200 156 (the GG-1 horn)
Nathan M-3 (Common on E, and F units)
WABCO E2-B1 (Rare 3 chime found on Lima Hamilton. Transfer units)
Leslie S-3L ( Most common 3 chime on GP-9 locomotives)

I was hoping to hit the PRR Days again this year, if for no other reason than to help Ed K. with his horn displays and to see the recent happenings of the Strasburg, but 1) I have a starter solenoid to replace in my car, and 2) provided I even manage to pull that off, there happe to be two other big events in Maryland I should be attending, one of them a place where I can definitely do some kilt shopping for upcoming nuptials. (Yes, mine--and yes, we're allowed to have hobbies and obsessions besides railroads!)

Hmm, thanks for the response Linn. I've been a fan of the SRR since before I could walk, thanks for many happy times (I'm out many times a year, and even when I don't ride you can be sure I blow a bunch of cash in the book store!). I'll be sure to watch for any future charters and see if I can join in.
