Looks like the Maine Eastern is planning on reviving passenger service on the old Maine Central Rockland Branch. Maine Eastern is part of the Morristown & Erie, of New Jersey, and is the latest operator of this line.

One of the men working at the roundhouse in Rockland, told me that they are considering acquiring either an old F40 or an FL9 for that purpose. The Governor of Maine has just cleared the way for slightly higher speeds on the Amtrak service between Boston and Portland, too.

The M&E has a slew of FL-9's and I have heard there are now F40's in Morristown, too. Between the ALCos and EMD cabs, the line has acquired quite an array of power that "could" wind up in Maine. This apparently includes modern coach stock, too. The Rockland line is a prime line for passenger rail, both tourist and local travel.

While I wish all the best to this enterprise, I have two questions. First, what is the basis for believing that patronage will be adequate in the long run and what are the engineering/safety considerations for the Carleton Bridge in Bath?
