I hear W&W's 4-4-0 # 98 is getting close to fire-up. Can anybody update us on the status of this engine and when (or if) the engine will be running again? Also, any doubleheaders planned with 0-6-0 # 58?

Gerry, No.98 is getting very close!! No.98 along with No.58 will be out on June 24, on public display around 11am. Both engines will NOT be steaming, but towed over to Greenbank Station by a SW-1. The engines will be a back drop, while the W&W recieves a large check from the state, to start the rebuilding efforts up to the first washed out trestle. The railroad is currently running on about 1.8 miles of track (short trips), This will start rebuilding up to the first hole in the ground. FEMA money will kick in soon too, to start working on rebuilding bridges. But this still may take over a year before the line is fulley reopened to Hockessin, DE. Last September a storm hit the area and washed out alot along the Red Clay Creek including the Wilmington & Western tracks. So in short, the No.98 will be steaming this year along with No.58, but for now there is no need to double head trains right now, the employess are working most of the time rebuilding the track so we can double head some time soon! Photos from the flood are on: www.wwrr.com DONATIONS ARE NEEDED TOO!!!!!!!
