Late update on the B&O Museum rebuilding effort:

A bright, shiny, and cosmetically-restored (and presumably operable) Pere Marquette SW1 #11 is now sitting out in front of the Museum's front door, directly down from the main gate. It rolled out about a week ago; I'me just forgotten to post about it. This was one of the locomotives inside the Roundhouse during the collapse, parked directly inside the main access track door.

The vast majority of the scaffolding has been removed from the exterior roof and cupola of the reconstructed Roundhouse. It probably won't be long before the ever-present crane can call it a year and return to other duties.

If this has been mentioned before, forgive me. But one interesting addition to the "new" B&O Museum will be those gorgeous half-inch scale models that had been in the Smithsonian's railroad hall before being pulled out for the redesigned exhibit. Since I spent my younger adult years drooling over those things and despaired when I heard they were now "obsolete", I for one am delighted to see them here and presumably safe.

It warms my heart to see those images of the refurbished PM-11. It's the first engine I ever worked with on my first day of brakeman's training, and years later ,my wife and I got married on her back porch. She's my sentimental favorite.

Ever been in the B&O Roundhouse? It's more of a cathedral than many a thing people build under the name of church these days. Our non-railroad guests (9 out of 10) loved the bulding and the different feel of the venue!
