B&O Museum Update: Roof Finished, New Loco

Post subject:  B&O Museum Update: Roof Finished, New Loco
1) The new roof of the B&O Museum Roundhouse is basically finished, down to the last windows and shingles. Yay!

2) A new arrival for the B&O Museum is currently sitting in a yard across town awaiting final delivery: an SW7 #1200, ex-Blue Mountain & Reading 1200, nee-Conrail/PC/NYC 8905; built 1950, retired from BM&R 2002. I've been told that the locomotive was sold to the B&O Museum by locomotive broker RMDI of Pittston, Pa. at a very, very reasonable price, to be used as an operable locomotive to haul excursions and other trains on the B&O Museum's "First Mile", presumably to reduce or eliminate wear and tear on the Museum's real-life artifacts (such as Pere Marquette SW1 11, B&O SW900 633, and B&O GP38-2 3802/CSX 9699). (Info on 1200 from RMDI representatives and online rosters.)

With a varied heritage such as this one, which will be the livery it wears when in use? Also, with all the diesels in the B&O collection, are the ones mentioned the only operable units they have?

Rumor has it that Alexander D. Mitchell the 4th (aka Sandy) is getting married soon. Congrats to sandy!!! To celebrate we'll bring in the hagus on a reefer car at union station. It's museum business.

Diesels from the collection that have operated since 1991 include:

PM 11 SW-1
WM 236 F-7
B&O 633 SW-900
B&O 5605 GP-7
B&O 6607 passenger GP-9
B&O 6944 GP30
B&O 7402 SD-35
CSX 9699 (B&O 3802) GP-38 Trains "All-American Diesel"

At any given moment, several of these engines can be out of service for repairs or for restoration; the whole list is almost never in service simultaneously.

Hello all,

Was this also a former Peoria & Eastern unit - I seem to remember that from the old R&N roster -- but it may have been a different unit. The NYC kept several of its subsidiaries with independent corproate structures operations, and paint schemes/lettering - including the P&E. If so, this may be the last P&E diesel remaining.

Also, has any work been done on the new shop that would be constructed along the mainline?

Nothing of an apparent physical nature visible from "public" property--no walls going up, etc. Not to say fundraising, planning, etc. isn't ongoing........

And seeing as the wedding will be several states away (hint: two railroad brewpubs within 100 miles), I will note: What has this to do with rail preservation? >:-)
