Post subject: | WANTED: Vintage Alco locomotives for future museum |
The Alco Historical & Technical Society is looking for locomotives to be saved for future use in a museum its proposing. We are looking for the following: Any steam built by Alco /MLW Alco diesels include: Any boxcabs, S-6, T-6, RS-1, RS-11, C420,S-2, S-1, S-4, RS-2, C415,C628,etc. Export units ok too as long as they are in the United States or Canada. MLW diesels include: S-13, RS-18, M420, M420TR, etc They can be either operational condition or not.The condition for the most part does not matter since most will be used for display. As long as they can be moved on their own wheels. If they are not available now, that's ok. We want information about them for future use. Thank you John Mech President |

You might contact Ed Bowers at: Vintage Locomotives Inc 3219 Lee Cir Pearland, TX 77581 Phone: (281) 997-0242 He has several vintage Alcos parked around the country and he also leases them. VLIX #312 has been parked at the Heart of Dixe RRM in Alabama for over a year. It had previously been leased to a rock quarry in Georgia. While he is in the business of leasing them he may be able to find something no longer used. Bill |

Some suggestions, not knowing the status of each: 1) Cass Scenic Railroad, Cass WV, just sold some ALCOs for scrap, S-2? and some MRS-1 locos.....these may be available from the scrap dealer for $$scrap?? 2) Big South Fork Railway in Stearns, KY just crapped out the prime mover in S-2 #105. It is stored dead in the shop last I heard. Don't know if it's available. 3) S-1? stored at Kentucky Railway Museum. Don't know it's availability, but not in service, not restored. |
