I have a running GE 80 tonner locomotive that a friend is looking to sell from his plant. The unit is an EX US Navy Locomotive. Cummins LI series engines (in-line 6 cyl), 14 brake, near new wheels, friction bearings, anti-freeze. The unit was fired off and ran last week without issue. Unit is in Eastern Ohio and land locked. Plenty of room for a crane and shipping by truck. Can anyone shed light on what these units are worth? |

The bigger GE 80 ton with the orginial Cummins L engine have little value due to the lack of Parts for that engine Parts are very expensiveif the can be found . Most have ended up in museum or tourist operation.Also the 38 inch wheels that it uses are another hard find. The locomotive might be worth more parts out to other still running the shortline or big 80ton locomotive. The goverment had some rebuilt and rengined and these are still being used . GE also made another 80 ton locomotive for industrial service with 33 inch wheels and right angle drive traction motors and a cummins truck style engine . These locomotives have commercial value and sell in the industrial market.They are also great pullers as the are hard to slip and have excellent slow speed control for spotting. Dennis Daugherty |

I would say $20,000 unless you get lucky with a factory. This guestimate is even high. Engines aren't selling now. traction motors are but most of the locomotive parts are going to be hard to sell. the $20K is based on scrap prices without any labor. You'll be lucky to get $20K now, but if you have time to market you may find a factory. I have a factory looking but there is a ton of red tape.
