The Sumpter Valley Railroad is looking for a piston rod and the top piston head with rings for a Westinghouse 9.5" air compressor. Ours suffered an interesting failure and we need to have it repaired by October 6, 2011. We have an interest in the aforementioned parts or in a complete compressor.

There is more than one "stock" size depending on the stock oversize of the bore after successive rebuilds. Given the very short fuse I'd only recommend Backshop Enterprises as most likely to have whichever you need NOW. Good luck........must have been quite the failure.

Valley Railroad has several loose pistons & rods for 9-1/2" pumps, but you'll need to measure the bore of your cylinder to figure out what you need. WABCO offered "repair sizes" of pistons by 1/16ths from 9-9/16" to 9-7/8". Bores over 9-7/8" were considered "condemned" because the wall of the cylinder would be too thin for continued service.
If we don't don't have the piston that you need, we also have a number of complete 9-1/2" pumps (running take offs) that have been stored inside for a couple of decades.
I also have a partially rebuilt 9-1/2" from China.
