Post subject:  For sale: 1953 Plymouth 40-ton MDT "Heavy"

The Craggy Mountain Line has decided to sell our Plymouth "critter" because it's not suitable for planned train operations. We occasionally run the engine (light) on a short section of track within our shop area and it runs well. Should make a good engine for a small industrial operation, shop goat, etc.

The engine was built by Plymouth in 1953 as a "heavy" 40-ton MDT, easily identified from other MDT's by the 2" thick gusset between the wheels. Plymouth made very few of this style so it's somewhat rare.

The unit was re-engined in the mid/late 1960s with a Cummins engine. Parts are still available according to a loco reseller we've contacted. It has a chain drive, no train air line (built that way), "typical" Plymouth slide/rack throttle, simple brake system, etc. Engine runs well for our purposes but could stand some fine-tuning by experienced mechanics (which we aren't).

Asking price $15,500. Buyer pays all shipping from current location (Asheville, NC). Photos available upon request (email is jimking3@charter.net; my cell no. 828-777-5619).
