Do you like working in a park setting? Do you like to be part of a team that does great things for historic preservation? We want you! We are the Travel Town Museum Foundation, and we work in Los Angeles Griffith Park. We are looking for a manager to oversee and help us develop our educational outreach, volunteers and restoration programs. What are we looking for in you? You will have good experience working with youth and enjoy working with all ages of people. You must be able to take direction and follow guidelines set by preservationists. You will not be afraid to lead by example, which might mean occasionally getting dirty and climbing on the sides of trains! You will need to assess volunteers' abilities and decide whether or not they are capable of the work that needs to be done on a given day. Public speaking will be necessary to train docents and to orient volunteers, and to explain our programs to Museum visitors and oversee our Tour programs. Writing ability is necessary, as many first interactions with volunteers is through web descriptions, letters, and e-mails. Yes, you will be busy, but this job can really be fantastically fun for the right person! You will make a HUGE difference in our organization and at our Museum!! Required tasks: 24-36 hours a week. Start time can be as late as 10am during the week, and you will have two weekdays off. Weekend work is mandatory, as those are our busiest days for volunteers. Will need to be able to be on your feet and walk a lot (we are an outdoor Museum) and you will need to be able to lift and carry 40 lbs. You must be comfortable dealing and working with people of all ages and abilities from sweet drooling 2 year olds to cantankerous older railroad fans. E-mail interaction (even on your days off) will be necessary. Must be able to write well and efficiently. Standard Operating Procedure Manuals need to be maintained and records of restoration work in Progress. Must be meticulous and accurate when recording hours for our volunteers in our database. Must be neat, organized, and encourage these qualities in all the volunteers and other co-workers as we work as a team. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Preferred abilities: Filemaker Pro, Facebook, Wikipages, iPhoto. Will be working primarily on a Mac. Familiarity with basic hand tools. An appreciation and respect for old things. Enthusiasm and an ability to think "outside the box" to solve problems. You may be requested to go to hardware stores and pick up supplies and equipment. Qualifications: Bachelors Degree or higher preferred, but not mandatory if you have several years of management experience.
