We received this request on WRM's web site.

If anyone has any information, please contact the requestor.

(I searched the RYPN archive, and a similar post was made in 2004. It's amazing that of the millions of units produced so few survive.)

I have suggested that she contact Timber Heritage Association since some of the cars they were offering are old enough that they might have Miner draft gear.

Thanks.

Hello,

I am writing on behalf of W. H. Miner, Inc., a manufacturer of railcar parts located in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. From 1894 until 1916, Miner manufactured a tandem spring draft rigging (predecessor to today's modern draft gears) that was the premier cushioning system of its time. About 4,000,000 of these tandem spring draft riggings were sold. I am writing because our owner, David Withall, is always interested in the early history of the company; as such, he hopes to find out the locations of the Miner tandem spring draft riggings still in existence, and possibly obtain one for our company's museum.

Do you know if any of your cars have a Miner tandem spring draft rigging installed? If so, any information you could provide would be very helpful.

Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely,
Robin Pokorski
