Post subject:  Wanted: 48' Thrall intermodal double stack well car

We are looking for a stand-alone 48' Thrall Husky stack well car for preservation. The type with square wheel-wells and ribbed sides. This type of intermodal car is rapidly disappearing. It was an iconic mainstay of railroads in the 1990s but many/most are now gone. Many have been cut up and downsized into 40' cars. We would like to preserve one at our site in far-northern California. Most seem to be owned by TTX but it is difficult to find the right contact person there, someone who might be able to give an answer other than "all of our intermodal equipment is in use and not available for donation."

We are worried that if we don't move on this soon, all of these car types will be gone. Anyone have any ideas? Obviously a low-cost purchase or donation would be preferable as we are a low-budget non-profit organization. But we want to get this done and would consider paying scrap value or something similar...
