The Georgia State Railroad Museum in Savannah Georgia is accepting applications for the position of a Diesel Locomotive and Railroad Maintenance Technician. The position is responsible for the day to day maintenance and repair of two General Electric 44 ton switching locomotives (Caterpillar D - 17000 engines, c. 1943, 1947) a 5 ton Davenport mechanical switching locomotive (modern Cummins diesel engine) a hybrid, diesel – electric 1935 Melbourne Streetcar, an 85 foot operational turntable and other passenger and freight equipment. Applicant should be familiar with various generations of diesel engines and associated locomotive electrical systems, air brake systems, hydraulics and a general working knowledge of railroad repair facilities and track systems. The position is full time (32-40 hours weekly); health insurance benefits and paid vacation are available, 401k after one year. Compensation is based on experience. Pre-employment drug screen and background check are required. The Georgia State Railroad Museum is owned by The City of Savannah. The museum is operated by The Coastal Heritage Society, a 501c3 non-profit organization, those hired will be the employees of The Coastal Heritage Society. The Georgia State Railroad Museum is a component of Tricentennial Park, a family friendly facility that includes The Savannah Childrens Museum, Battlefield Park, The Savannah History Museum and Savannah Visitors Center.
