Post subject: | WANTED --- caboose, streetcar, small car, or depot |
Hello, I'm looking for a caboose, moderate sized piece of rolling stock, or even a small depot to use as an office and guest house. Ideally I'd like to find something that needs to be saved from the wrecking yard. Not a starry eyed dreamer or other species of time-waster . . . I've researched this for a while, and go into it eyes open. I'm an amateur but experienced restorer and builder of various non-train things. Have a well stocked shop, skill with woodworking, welding, sheet metal fab, and also hope to have a forge set up soon. If I can find something, this is my next big project. I'd prefer to save something rather than build from scratch. It needs to be solid enough to transport, but beyond that, condition isn't critical. Yes I do know that it costs a lot to transport rolling stock, and prepare a site. Yes I have acreage at my home that is already flat and somewhat prepared for this purpose. And yes I probably am crazy to do this . . . but it's a long time dream and I'm not getting any younger! If anyone knows of something that would be suitable please get in touch with me. Thanks!!! |

The Empire State Railway Museum in Phoenicia, New York is in the process of deaccessing a late 1800's B&M 65' baggage car. The body is badly weathered, the roof is intact but worn, the frame and running gear are intact and the car has been rolled after having the bearings cleaned and re-lubed. I can provide pictures and more details if you are interested. This is the first posting about this car as the decision to deaccession it was made this weekend.
