Post subject: | Canadian Northern Railway Preservation |
The Canadian Northern Society is a registered non-profit group dedicated to preserving the History of the Canadian Northern Railway in Alberta. We own 3 early 1900's railway stations, a grain elevator and locomotive shop/roundhouse ruins. http://canadiannorthern.ca/wp/ The society has been approved for a Matching Grant through the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation to conduct a stability study on the Roundhouse ruins in Big Valley, AB. Once the study has been completed a plan will be developed to stabilize and preserve the grounds for future generations to enjoy. The current setting is a park amoung the ruins with a self guided historical tour detailing the importance of the Canadian Northern Railway in the development of the Canadian west. The displays detail cultural, industrial and agriculture developments as a result of the railway bringing settlers to western Canada. Funding is required immediately to determine if there are any safety concerns resulting from deterioration of the concrete structures. Preserving this site is important because linked with our other sites, it tells the story of how Alberta was settled and what role industrial heritage played. We currently have a Go Fund Me page started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.https://www.gofundme.com/canadian-north ... ay-station |
