I am working with a Non-For-Profit Group to restore an ALCO switcher. This locomotive is in need of a "new" RTO ALCO 6-251 engine due to a scored crankshaft in the current one. While a donation is preferred, we will be interested in purchasing one at a reasonable price.. We will undertake the expense of shipping. If you have one or know of one that is RTO, please let me know. Thank you Alcoman |

I have no affiliation with this company and know nothing of the status but The Locomotive Company in Jackson, Mi had 2 of them sitting in their driveway for a number of years. I have not been by in a couple of years and do not know if they are still there. |

The group does not have a lot of money to spend on one. I found one but priced too high for this group. We will keep looking. Thanks. |

I take it resurfacing or replacing the crank is out of the question or beyond their capabilities? |

More to the point, I take it fund raising is beyond their capabilities. If they start with this skill, they will have the resources to get whatever else they might need. |

The Museum in question is a small operation funded by one person so its not so much the Fund Raising as it lack of deep pockets. While I don't disagree that fundraising would be useful, I did find a prime mover for $15,000 which I thought was very reasonable given the demand for these 6-251's. Since this gentleman is funding this restoration himself, its his call. |
