Hey there. So the other day, I was looking at Steamtown's website where NKP 759 currently resides. I noticed it had the same birth year as my grandfather (1944). So that got me thinking: with her sister 765 already operable, would a restoration of NKP 759 be worth it? |

Perhaps the best answer would be, "not at this time." |

If 765 was already operating every day and operating opportunities were being unfilled, sure. Otherwise.... another roundhouse queen hoping to find a few days to go out and run every year if she's lucky? |

What Dave said. Cosmetic restoration only to halt any additional deterioration. |

As much as I love the 759, I would rather see dollars go to finish up a locomotive that has never seen a fire in it. Look at the 3713 or the 1309. I got to ride behind 759 at speed over the Lackawanna Cutoff and around Horseshoe Curve at about 15 MPH. I will never forgot those days. The 765 now fills the void for people to ride behind big steam at speed. There is only a limited amount of funds to go around and there are too many projects that never get finished. |

We know that SNHS would ideally like to have four locos in steam - two for on-site interpretation and two for main line duties. Currently they are considering bringing parts mike CN 3377 back from the dead. I think this is a good option for them. If the boiler on 3377 proves to be too thin, I would be equally interested in seeing them purchase PRR 1361. 759 is well preserved and safe and sound inside the roundhouse, which is a great place for her to be. |

Ummmmm..... how do we "know" that? I have not seen any documentation of that as a priority. I think they might like a mainline sized option, but have their hands full with the 0-6-0 while working on the one they have already prioritized, and it would be unlikely that they would have made that choice without a boiler survey having been integral to that decision. |

Quoted and published. Direct from the Sup. As for 3377, they are/were trying to allocate the funding necessary to strip and inspect the boiler. Preliminary inspection looks good but it has not been fully checked. |
