Post subject:  two foot gauge locomotive wanted

We are looking for a two foot gauge locomotive to use on our narrow gauge railway here in upstate NY. We are not looking for a steam engine. It does not have to be in running condition.

If you have one and would like to see it put to use please let us know.

Thanks,

Ben

Why Don't you want a steam locomotive?

We do not want all the expense associated with one. If someone had one and wanted to bring it here that would be OK too.

Thanks,

Ben

You should consider other gauges that can be easily regauged, many of the small ones can. Also these critters come in all sizes from 1 ton with no cab and a single cylinder engine up to a double truck 700 horsepower model. What size range are you looking for?
Just trying to be helpful.

Not trying to hijack the thread, and I don't know how many of us are around, who were involved in the move of the WM 6 from the B&O Museum to the Cass Scenic Railroad, 35 or more years ago, however the mention of having problems with wide tires on the locomotive not clearing self-guarded frogs is true. We had to make a pair of ramps out of bar stock, tapered on ends, and thick enough to lift the tire up and over the self guarded frogs. The blacksmith over at Riverside Shop helped us get by that problem. We needed a pair of them because sometimes the front truck would be coming to the next frog, while the back truck was on the previous frog. I remember years later visiting Cass and seeing the two ramps "stored" within the front double I-beam bolster of the WM 6. I wonder if they are still there?

Seems like getting one is another gauge would be difficult. Seems like there was quite a bit of two foot equipment that has been made over the years.

Look for used mining equipment dealers.

It is getting increasingly difficult to find 24" gauge equipment as I can attest!

Hello. Could you please forward this list to me as well? I am looking for 18" to 36" gauge equipment.

Thank you.

As of last December there was a Brookville 2' engine and two mine dump cars in Freeville NY, but I don't know what they are there for or if the owner has ever been approached to see if he would sell them:
