I'm not the owner, just passing this along with permission The Great Northern round-end observation car "Trempelau Mountain" is available for sale. It must be moved soon, or it's getting cut up. It's located on Snoqualmie Pass, WA adjacent to I-90. Owner also has an Alaska RR caboose for sale. Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/9kLm47BLydm84qKX7 Contact Info: Ken Hotz, 931 209 2115 From the owner: "...in a few days I have to make some decisions . We are not a scrap company we own the 31 acres . And yes I plan on using a big excavator with a shear attachment and cutting the 2 remaining cars . 1 was purchased tonight. Once I have a none refundable deposit they can sit for 6 weeks I don't have time to list them as we are going to develop the property and everything is in my way and I need to start building before the snow flys". Here is an update to the original FB post, good news, if a bit odd (I'm surprised there wasn't more interest in this car, other than as a cafe' 2K miles away): "Hotz Hitchez So here is an update, the observation car will be taken to New Orleans and will arrive by the 31st of October. It will be placed on a 121+ x 21 foot wide lot. It will be completely restored and turned into a restaurant with a little train depot along side of it. Michael .H is the new owner and currently working on getting low boy lined up to haul. So thanks everyone and we still have 1 caboose left. So I you stopped by at any point and made an offer , I dont have a way to contact the few who inquired about the caboose so get in touch with me again please. 1d" |

November 27,2023 Making a pass by the truck stop in LaPlace, LA, I caught this Peterbilt hauling a passenger car from the Great Northern Trempealeau Mountain Train. This rig is 125 ft long and weighs 165,500 lbs. The rail car itself is 11 ft wide, 85 ft long, and 80,000 lbs. The passenger car was picked up in Seattle, Washington and was delivered to New Orleans, LA. The Great Northern Trempealeau Mount Train traveled the Trempealeau Mountains in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin and at times would travel North into Canada. Originally a lounge observation car from the "Mid-Century" (1950) edition of Great Northern Railway's famed "Empire Builder," one of six such cars built by American Car & Foundry, specifically as GN 1294 "Trempealeau Mountain." This car was one of two of those six which ended up as part of Andy's Tukwila Station restaurant in Tukwila, WA. This location was closed in the early 90's and all of the cars were sold at an auction. GN 1294 was moved to Andy's new location near Snoqualmie Pass on I-90. It was placed on the market for resale earlier this year. The new owner will be refurbishing this passenger car for a restaurant at 1424 Oretha Castle Blvd. in New Orleans, LA. Thank you Hintons Enterprises Inc. for the information. Thank you Aaron and Ted for additional information. (11/13/23)" I looked up the address on google street view but didn't see the car.
