I've been trying for the last year now to get an update on LS&I 2-8-0 #23's restoration at the Catskill Mountain Railroad, it is owned by the Empire State Railway Museum but the work is being done and it will operate at the Catskill Railroad. Last update was from 2008 saying the tender was rebuilt. Anyone hear anything? Thank you!

This locomotive is briefly mentioned in the recent issue of Classic Trains (Fall 2019, page 9). Work on it slowed over the years and eventually stopped. In 2016, it was moved in pieces and reassembled. It is undergoing a cosmetic restoration although it wouldn't take much to restore it to operation. Work that has been done to it includes a new tender tank, a new smokebox and new boiler flues. All of the parts are still around and in storage.
