So every so often I come across locomotives that are just off. Usually these come from switching operations and look like whoever did the modifications had no experience with trains or railroads and decided to make up how things work themselves. This is one of my most recent finds at first it looks like an alco switcher with the cab removed to make it into a B unit, but upon closer inspection you see the engineer side step well has been removed and a booth placed there with internal controls that don't resemble anything remotely railroad. I also remember seeing photos of an abandoned locomotive at mine that while it was the shell of a geep the prime mover only came up to chest hight and the control stand was custom made from stuff you could probably find on McMaster Carr. Anybody else have any examples of stuff that was modified by someone who obviously had no idea about railroad standards and how stuff is usually done?
