It seems rather odd an investor would buy into the Greenbriar only to sell it out. You would think they would be interested in the venture by buying into it.

Time to move on to the next thing.

I had a thought if the 614 was brought back up to running to run it on the NS instead and embarrass CSX for not doing a steam program...

remind them several eastern states signed some declarations to inform about Railroad history, this might be part of NS's motivation to run the excursions.

If you google the Greenbriar's owner, you'll find lots of articles that describe unpaid bills and litigation against him. Here are a few:

HuffingtonPost: Billionaire Jim Justice's Coal Operations Struggle As Business Owners Go Unpaid (June 16, 2013)

USA Today: Greenbrier owner faces lawsuits for lack of payments (June 17, 2013)

Appalachian Voices - Expecting Justice: The backward priorities of a billionaire coal baron (Aug 7, 2014)

Associated Press: Mine Owner to Pay $1.5 Million Penalty to Kentucky for Environmental Violations (August 21, 2014)

Harlan Daily: Miners win lawsuit filed against Justice (September 8, 2014)

According to the Reading Eagle:
Quote:
Most of the Greenbrier rail cars went to Union Pacific Railroad in Philadelphia, while a few went to the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Norfolk Southern Amtrak line.

Winning bids for the rail cars ranged from $18,000 to $137,500. The average sale price was $61,000.

Source: Colebrookdale rail passed on cars auctioned by Greenbrier Express Co. in Pottstown (Sunday September 21, 2014 12:01 AM)

I assume that the the "Norfolk Southern Amtrak line" is a reference to Amtrak/NCDOT Piedmont Service, which operates over NS tracks.

The correct facts are that 4 cars were bought by the UPRR, 2 by the State of NC and 7 went to individual private buyers.

Mr. Rowland and all,

Thank you for reporting the auction results.

However, I remind you and everyone else to please refrain from personal attacks, this includes attaching the "cko" to someone's name to make it a permutation of "wacko."

Mr. Rowland, you of all people should know better, but this warning applies to everyone. While we allow more freewheeling discussion over here, personal attacks and namecalling are not allowed. More importantly, if you have to result to personal attacks and namecalling, you've alreay lost the argument. That applies to everyone.

With that said, I think even in this forum, the topic has run its course. I am locking it, but keeping it up for future reference, the only text I removed were the personal attacks themselves.
