Post subject:  NYS&W Utica NY Branch Snowplow Extra
Thus far, our winter's been an easy one here in Central NY as far as snowfall accumulation goes; however, our first "major" storm of the season dropped approx a foot of snow hereabouts on Monday prompting the NYS&W to run a snowplow work extra from Utica to Sangerfield, approx 22 miles. I missed the chance to photograph the crew while they were snowplowing the line to Sangerfield, but I did catch them on their return trip. Here are a few photos:

1) NYS&W GP40 3040 northbound, Utica, NY with snowplow in tow.

2) 3040 approaching ex-DL&W passenger station & NYC caboose (currently used as a hair salon), Utica, NY.

3) Passing Station.

Nice photos!

What is the history of that plow? It looks like a Russell product, but the cupola design is pretty unique. Must have come from somewhere with pretty tight clearances.

Thanks for the compliment, Steve!

I've read that this plow was once owned by the US Air Force and used in connection with base operations at Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY. I've also read that it was acquired by the NYS&W in the early 1990's. Unfortunately, I have no further info on its history.

This is an O.F. Jordan built plow (Same guys that built the spreaders).

While, as noted above, I missed NYS&W plow 95 in action on Feb 2nd, the snow gods saw fit to send a lot more snow our way and I caught the Utica-Sangerfield snowplow operation on Feb 11th.
