In a bold move, the Illinois Railway Museum acquired Union Pacific 2-10-2 #5511, a longtime dweller of the Cheyenne roundhouse. "We only have one UP steam locomotive, #428, and being next to a UP main, we had to get another!" a volunteer was quoted as saying. "It's going to look great on our new turntable!" Details of the move are still being worked out, but it's hoped that the volunteers currently out in Denver working on the 130 ft turntable recently acquired by the museum can take a detour to Cheyenne to prepare the engine for transport. It's also hoped that the engine will be on site by the end of the operating season in September. Happy April Fools Day! Christian Ellis |
