Hi folks,

I know I could reach out to FEBT (Friends of the East Broad Top) and other entities, but I wanted to try here first (after Google searches a-plenty). Some of the surviving East Broad Top steam locomotive tenders appear very smooth in surface finishes, i.e. no visible rivets. Whether this is the actual case or is an issue of picture resolution, I don't know.

So my question: are any of these tenders of welded, vs. riveted, construction? I would tend to think they are not welded for a variety of reasons, i.e. the pictures don't tell the full story.

Thanks in advance,

John

The new constructed tender tank they had built was welded. I do not know if they intend to add fake rivets for aestetics.

All the original tenders were standard riveted construction, afaik.

From photos I've seen, big 2-8-2's 16 and 17 had welded tenders in 1956 and 18 has a riveted one. Smaller 2-8-2's 12, 14 and 15 have riveted tenders.

One source says the welded tenders were done in 1940.

I just learned (per Friends of C&TS) D&RGW K-36 488 (now C&TS) is getting a new riveted tender cistern this Winter.
