Upstate NY native Jay Winn has been a railfan since the late 1940's when his grandfather began taking him down to Utica NY's Union Station to watch the New York Central. He's authored several railroad books, ran a business making/repairing model trains and made/collected vintage railroad recordings offering them for sale for many years selling thousands of CDs. I recently interviewed Jay about his lifelong fascination with railroading. The interview was videoed and is now up on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxyieeqgRiE Topics include (refer to the YouTube description where hyperlinks to the topics listed below are provided): 1. The Delaware & Hudson (Jay talks about designing the paint scheme for the Baldwin "Sharks") 2. New York Central (including a coal train derailment which nearly resulted in disaster for the westbound New England States 3. Boston & Maine's Hoosac Tunnel (including accompanying a trackwalker well into the tunnel) 4. New York, Ontario & Western 5. Erie-Lackawanna and 6. Delaware-Otsego's Central New York Railroad's operation of the former DL&W/E-L Richfield Springs NY branch. A few of Jay's vintage sound recordings are included at the end of the video (CNY Railroad & a NY Central 2-8-2 on Big Moose Hill, Adirondack Division).
