Post subject:  "Seizing A U.S. Mail Train...For Back Taxes?"

This short video tells the story of attempted seizures of U.S. Mail trains by an overzealous town tax collector in Paris, NY in February 1870. The Utica, Chenango & Susquehanna Valley Railroad was behind in tax payments and the Town of Paris tax collector thought he could persuade the Railroad to "pony up" if he he detained their trains.

Also included in this video is a look at a short New York, Susquehanna & Western freight passing through the town where all the commotion occurred 155 years ago.

Oh, and a Deputy US Marshal was twice-summoned to address the lawlessness back in the days of the Wild, Wild East.
