The Stockton and Darlington Railway On 27th September 2025 we marked the bicentenary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway which is accepted the world over as one of the most significant developments in the history of railways, the precursor of all that was to follow in the development of railway networks throughout the world. That day, Locomotion No. 1 pulled a long train along the Stockton and Darlington Railway. ………… I was asked to give a talk by the Friends of Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust entitled, 'What was so special about the Stockton & Darlington Railway?'
