Thanks for posting the photo. I was a bit surprised when I saw it. I had thought (from something I read quite a while ago) that most of these "Bullet-nosed Betty's" had lost their bullet noses through the years. But here is #6069 with hers in 1958, not too long before the end of steam in Canada. Did I get the wrong dope? Did most of these late 4-8-2's keep their "noses" right to the end?

6060 on display in Jasper, Alberta pre-1970 without her bullet nose.

CN's western region management did not like the "Bullet Noses" and removed them on all the U-1f's in their territory. 6060 ended her days in Alberta, hence the nose was removed in her last days of revenue service. It was restored in 1973 when she received her first rebuild.

Unless otherwise noted, most all the photos of engines and equipment I post links to photos of are things that still exist. The steam engines are easily looked up on Doug Bailey's site for current whereabouts.

I wish to object in the strongest possible terms to the cosmetic modifications made to, and depicted on, 6077 in the photograph above. After all, HIT Entertainment is most likely to sue over the poorly-crafted "Thomas" face shown; furthermore, any attempt to apply wings should be restricted solely to the "Flying Scotsman" and any attempted replication of the "Flying Hamburger"............
