My working in Vermont definitely has had its advantages. Here's GMRC (ex-Rutland) RS-1 No 405 looking like new in Bellows Falls just last week. How lucky is Bruce...getting to run her every weekend? And the 405 still gets the occaisional workout as extra power on GRMC freight...57 years young! Save for the roller bearings (and her new Hancock air whistle), she's all original!

I photographed a very sad-looking Washington Terminal 59 sitting derelict on the South Jersey RR in Salem, NJ the other day............... last used short-term on the West Shore RR 1989 or so on the same service that Strasburg's "new" diesel was in (I think L&BC 1500 replaced the RS1).

I seem to recall that it was the Chattahoochee Valley Railroad that owned a whole bunch of RS-1's at one time. Is CVR 743 (Rock Island 743) the only one still in existance?

Several RS-1's and their near cousin, the RSD-1, can be found in the Tennessee Valley area.

Southern Freight Logistics at Oak Ridge, TN, has two RS-1's which have in the past been leased to and operated by the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum.

Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum has former Bay Line/Hartford & Slocomb RS-1 #913, with chopped short hood, displayed at the Grand Junction Depot, Chattanooga.

Huntsville Madison County Airport Authority (Huntsville, AL) has one RS-1 employed at their intermodal terminal.

ex-Army RSD-1: North Alabama Railroad Museum has one, # 8652
TVRM has five, two operable (8669, 8677) and three stored pending disposition (8014, 8021, 8668)

The Southern Michigan Railroad Society owns the Ann Arbor Railroad RS-1s, numbers 20 and 21. One of them is stored and the other is on loan to a static display in Shepherd, Michigan. The stored one was started and ran with very little difficulty. The other has not been tested.

400 sold 9/56 to Tennessee Railroad (#4), to Charlestown South Carolina State Port Authority #4K, 3/77 to Virginia & Maryland #20. Presently on the Arkansas & Missouri as their #20.

401 leased to Vermont Railway 1/64, then sold to VTR. Sold to Consumers Power Co. Essexville, MI. Jan. 1967, 10-28-03 sold to, and currently at the Saginaw Railway Museum.

402 leased to Vermont Railway 1/64, then sold to VTR. Sold 6/72 to Sabine River & Northern (Texas) #102, reported as burned 11/76 (electrical fire?). Rebuilt by Southern Rails Inc. as a RS-1u with a chop nose. To Tuscola & Saginaw Bay #2394 1-78 and named the “Corkpine Express.” Was on lease to still-born Kent-Barry-Eaton Connecting, threw a rod and OOS 3-82. Sold to, and presently on the Coopersville & Marne Railway in Coopersville, MI.

405 leased 1964 to Nelson Blount, sold 4/1/65 to and now owned by Green Mountain Railroad

GMRC
400 now Danbury Railway Museum NYNH&H 0673. Built as IT 753, renumbered to IT 1053, transferred to GM&O 1053, purchased by GMRC 6-28-76, sold 1-96 to DRM.

401 now Catskill Mountain Railway 401. Built as IT 752 (or 6?), renumbered to IT 1052, transferred to GM&O 1052, purchased by GMRC 6-28-76, sold to CMRR 1-88.
