A real tragedy. This locomotive sat around Honolulu until about 1967, when it was cut up. The four Oahu 2-8-2s were essentially D&RGW K-28s, with different details.

Interesting to note the tender-less Hawaii Ry. No. 5 behind it. Hal Wilmunder managed to get the tender sometime before Bob Keller purchased the locomotive in 1970, and reunited the two on the mainland. The locomotive had been set aside for preservation by F. Norman Clark of R&LHS/Roaring Camp fame.

Edit: the K-28 was sold for scrap for $150. Too bad.
