I guess we can call it dewindling history...First it was the steam, then the railroads, now the rails.

It was this trip that is often mentioned that the Southern was introduced to big steam. On the depart of the SR brass from the cab, it was said " I've never been so far, so fast, and never have broken anything!". One of Doyles responces," It's not a J, but I hope she'll do". The rest is history. After this trip the Southern leased the 2716, and latter did in fact reactivate the J.

The lives that have been touched by The American Freedom Train probably count into the hundred of thousands, if not millions. The 4449 alone toured 41 states durring the AFT.

Well I messed up that post so it must not have been that important anyway.

Speaking of Helicopters I am surprised to hear you guys are anti-copter, since that outfit last time buzzed the Gorge pretty good from what I hear. Personally, I prefer seeing surface to air missiles launched in their direction, especially my competitors! :)

It's not that we're "anti helicopter", it's just that we don't want a repeat of Cajon in a much smaller, and more dangerous canyon. A local Roundhouse volunteer works as a photographer for a local news station, and he's said that he's very leary of flying in the canyon, as there's many abandoned ariel cables and such that will take a copter down with no notice. He's in the air almost every day he works, so I trust his judgment. Plus being a National Scenic Area has many limits, and if your "N" number is recorded, your busted!

We want this to be a safe trip. Not only for those on the train, but for the people at trackside. The last way we need to make news is "family of 6 killed by steam train chasers".

Surface to air, or surface to surface, yes, many times we'd like to get ahold of some of those at the antics we see when we go out.

I'd still like to see your pic!
