The "World.nycsubway.org" website has pictures of a "railbus." They were taken by Doug Grotjahn from the Joe Testagrose collection. The pictures were taken in 1975 at the Shore Line Trolley Museum in Connecticut. The bus can travel on the road or on rails with the aid of flanged wheels under the bus' body. It was operated by the Connecticut Company. There appears to be nothing about it on the museum's website. What's the story about this vehicle?

The Bus in question still exists in the bus collection located at The Connecticut Trolley Museum. The highrail equipment is still mounted. The bus only highrailed a few times. The equipment was welded up at some point and the bus was used in regular service for many years. We hope to eventually try it out again on the rails at our museum.

Thank you for that information. One last question: How did the bus propel itself down the track? Some kind of direct drive? Diesel-Electric?

The bus was basically the same as any other high rail vehicle.

Take a standard bus, modify (if needed) the rear rims to center a pair of tires over the rail, and mount flanged wheels to the frame. The railwheels leave most of the weight on the rear wheels and lifts the front wheels a few inches higher then the rail, so they don't hit anything (self guarding frogs, etc...).
