Due to short time this is posted here. Corps of Eng is having an auction for a 45 ton GE loco and coach used at the Dallas Dam in Oregon. Loco needs traction motor work. Bid 8/26 at 7pm ct currnet bid $1025. Go to GSAAUCIONS.GOV then misc then locomotive.

This could be just the thing for an operation like Walkersville & Southern or the Ma and Pa at Muddy Creek Forks, where they need something really light on the rails, plus the half-open/half-closed coach looks interesting and in decent condition. Anybody know if the caboose attached to the engine and coach in the photos goes with them?

From the photos, this unit appears to be a low-profile 44-ton GE, not a 45-tonner. The hoods, exhaust stack housings and trucks look like a 44-tonner to me. Someone with access to the GE builder's lists should be able to tell by its construction number.

Yes, that is the US military version of the GE "44 ton" design, most of which did weigh in at 45 tons, unlike a standard 44 tonner.

GE S/N 27580 Shipped from GE 8-April-1944. Road number 8502.
Although it weighed 45 tons, it had all of the classic "44 tonner" features - D-17000 prime movers, 555 Main Generators, 733 Traction motors.

It was shipped to "Port of Embarkation", so it would appear to have served overseas. If true, this would make it a rather rare bird, one would think. . .

This locomotive went through the UK in 1944 and was likely assembled at Newport Ebbw Junction Works. It was at Southampton in July 1944. It remained in the UK for about a month before going to France, where such locomotives were typically operated in pairs, although occasionally they operated alone or in threes. It returned to the US in 1945.
