These came through on Flickr. The C&IM engine looks good but the Wabash one looks like a rusting hulk. They are not dated so let's hope this is not the case today.

The photos are fairly recent. Calling it a "rusting hulk" may be a bit melodramatic. The Wabash locomotive and the former Frisco 0-6-0 behind it that later worked for Scullin Steel recently came out of "hiding" as part of some work on museum property.

I haven't been by the museum as of late, but I'm sure the Transportation Museum Association would be more than glad to take donations of material, time and of course $$s to provide some paint for these locomotives.

Is Wabash #573 MOT's only Mogul? Is the Scullin Steel (Frisco) engine its only example of an 0-6-0?

I believe, thinking on-the-fly that the mogul's wheel arrangment is not duplicated in the collection.

The 0-6-0 is duplicated in the Georiga RR 0-6-0 that is on display near the Scullin locomotive.

This one of a really sweet EL Sd45 also came through.

Wilkinsd has the right answer and it is one I've used many, many times myself as I work around the museum. Someone will come down the trail and say something like, "this rusting stuff looks horrible." To which I politely reply, "I agree and we are accepting donations and volunteer signups in the museum." Haven't has any takers yet. See, many of us here are in the preservation field want to save everything. And we have grand visions as well. But the fact of the matter is that we usually have more on our plate than we can handle. There are things that we want to do but volunteers are in short supply. Just yeaterday, myself and our newest volunteer, Mark, took on the task of glazing the windows in the section house. Now this isn't something that trail walkers will see but it needed to be done before we can paint the section house. Would I like to sand and paint the GE diesel? You bet! But it will just have to wait. And in the meantime we are negotiating to save other historic pieces. It's either us or the scrapper's torch.

Here's a shot of the ex-Frisco 3695, ex Scullin Steel 95. Not much paint stripping left to do. I think she was last painted in the '70s.

Not necessarily - MOT has done some very successful surgical deaccessioning of some pieces to other responsible parties in the past few years. Nothing like the scrappers torch. Perhaps more could be done in the future if prodent management decides it is appropriate.

Thanks for the photo. I guess I'm a bit surprised that Scullin Steel (ex-Frisco) #95 was not on the recent list of equipment that MOT deaccessioned. The museum has another Frisco engine (the 1522) and another 0-6-0, the Georgia Railroad engine that David Wilkins mentioned.
