Terrific recreation of a beloved train! Hard to tell the number of cars behind the three cab units. Can you advise? Also, anyone know the ordinary number of cars run in a CZ when it was being run in regular service?

Frailey's Twilight of the Great Trains shows a summer 1964 typical consist: baggage-mail-express, two coaches, three(!) dome-coaches, dome bar-lounge-dorm, diner, 6-5 sleeper, three 10-6 sleepers, run-through C&O 10-6, CRI&P 8-6, dome sleeper-bar-lounge-obs.

That similar thing needs to happen with the Broadway Limited..

Okay, I can find you two PRR E8's, I know where a PRR P70 and B60 reside in Pennsylvania, and let's assume we can borrow two more P70's and a coach-lounge somewhere. There's a diner/kitchen-dorm twin-unit set sitting around somewhere, I think, in rough condition. Borrow the obs-lounge from Altoona.

Now you're left finding three 10-6 sleepers, a 12DR-4BR, a 4-4-2 sleeper, and a 5BR-lounge. Any ideas? (If you really want to go vintage, I could find you four or five PRR/NYC Pullman day coaches on disconnected track in central Pa. in ex-camp-car condition......)

There is an ex PRR 1dr3dbr lge. privately owned in California. I suspect that is the closest car you could find to the Broadway Limited Pullmans you listed. No P70's, please, the Real Broadway was an all-Pullman train.

IIRC, the Friends of 261 have a few coaches that were used on the Broadway/are ex-PRR.

From my memory, the full exhibit train was two vista domes and two coaches from the museum, and the dome, coach, observation car from the excursion train, 7 cars. Some of the coaches could be sleepers, or other configurations without vista domes.There are at least two other CZ style cars at the museum, one is a vista dome inside the building undergoing a "ground up" restoration.

Looks like the first car behind the F-unit trio is ex-CB&Q dome coach #4720 'Silver Rifle' which came to Portola from GGRM when the moved. The other CZ cars that Portola owns are WP 832 dome lounge dorm 'Silver Hostel', WP 841 diner 'Silver Plate', and CB&Q dome coach #4717 'Silver Lodge'. I'm not sure which others were on the train, though- I suspect 'Silver Hostel' was not since it has no windows.

WP 805-A EMD FP7A (The last surviving California Zephyr passenger locomotive)

"WP" 925-C GMDD F9Bu (ex CN 9190, not an actual WP locomotive)

WP 917-D EMD F7A

CB&Q 4720 "Silver Rifle" (California Zephyr dome coach)

CB&Q 4717 "Silver Lodge" (California Zephyr dome coach)

WP 841 "Silver Plate" (California Zephyr diner)

SP 9021 Budd 10-6 sleeper, ex-Amtrak 2444 "Magnolia Grove", common foreign road car on CZ

CB&Q 4718 "Silver Lariat" (California Zephyr dome-chair, visiting museum on charter trip)

PRR 8449 "Silver Rapids" (California Zephyr 10/6 sleeper built for the Pennsylvania for through-car service to New York City, visiting museum on charter trip)

CB&Q 377 "Silver Solarium" (California Zephyr dome-lounge-observation, visiting museum on charter trip)

As stated above, "Silver Hostel" was not included as it is inside the diesel shop with the interior gutted and with no windows while undergoing a restoration.
