For those who are following the fate of Detroit's Michigan Central station, there is an article starting on page 98 in the May 2002 issue of Metropolis magazine (architecture/design). It has brief text and four large format photos of the interior and a small one of the exterior. I don't know how widely available this magazine is, but it's worth a look if you can find it.

Does the article mention any of the recent efforts to use the building and give any indication of its likelihood of being saved?

I heard several months ago that the owner was working to put a convention center in there. From past articles, it sounds as if the city would like it dropped if nothing materializes.

There's nothing in the article about current restoration or reuse efforts. The text reflects on the evolution of buildings in an urban setting.

Michigan Central is on borrowed time from what I here. The plan was to have U.S. Customs and some other Detroit-based federal institutions move in there to creat a new "customs plaza". I haven't heard anything more since January. I do, hopever, see pieces of MC come up for sale on ebay occassionly......
