The next FEBT Rockhill work session of 2010 will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18, 2010 We will work from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday.
We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.

MEALS

Breakfast and lunch both days and dinner on Saturday will be available at the Iron Rail B&B, across the street from the depot. No meals will be offered by RTY this session. Please RSVP directly to the Brightbills at the Iron Rail (trolley@innernet.net <mailto:trolley@innernet.net>) if you plan to eat any of these meals. Dinner is subject to cancellation if there are not enough RSVPs.

WEATHER

Wow! It looks like we’ll be in the 60s this weekend! Visit http://www.accuweather.com <http://www.accuweather.com> and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the latest on the approach of spring.

COMBINE 14

We’ll continue installation of the new center sill component and afterwards will level the car to match the new, straighter sill. If the weather allows gluing, we will be installing the new west-side bolster parts and the northeast side-sill splice. We may also be able to begin work on the southwest corner. General carpenter tools and small power tools are handy for this work. Lee Rainey will lead this project.

BOILER HOUSE

On the agenda for this session: unloading lumber, jacking up the cupola, repairs to the west boilerhouse wall, disassembly of the west boilerhouse roof, and re-framing the same section of roof. If the weather interferes, the crew will work on the large timber replacement inside, and will build forms for the stack base concrete pour.
Heavy-duty hand power tools are useful on this crew. Remember their
motto: anything smaller than a 4x4 is just trim. Jim Bacon is the crew leader in the machine shops

MAIN SHOPS

The Glass Rattlers have a number of projects, including: remove scabbing from the Boiler House post, re-install the radiator in the Boiler House, measure for Boiler House siding, mark and remove the radiators in the Locomotive Shop, remove internal siding from the Locomotive Shop, clean out sill remains, cut and drill scabs for Loco Shop posts, move new Loco Shop sill inside, and continue the slip roll restoration. Bill Adams and Chris Coleman will lead this project.

STEEL CREW

Work will continue on the north end platform. The pacing item here is the side sill crew getting in the way of the platform crew! Additional parts may start to be fitted to the #14 south bumper. Also fitting the end railing to the bumper is planned, before the crew starts stripping and cleaning that railing. The brake rigging that was salvaged from some of the hoppers to use on the #16 trucks can be cleaned and primed, weather permitting. Steve Jacobs leads this crew.

GROUND RULES

To take part, you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.
Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an email in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning.

See you there!
