Roanoke does have an N&W SD45 in the Virginia Museum of Transportation with the 1776 preserved in its Bicentennial paint scheme. It was one of a group of Bicentennial engines invited by Trains Magazine to Chicago for an unusual group portrait. It was later repainted by the railroad into basic black with the NW logo applied, but was returned to its striking but classically simple red, white and blue scheme with dulux gold lettering for display at VMT.

No, just illustrating a point. Many of these details are pretty insignificant, both historically and from the railroad it was on. Once you've saved a low nose, a high nose, a passenger version, a dash-2, and a tunnel motor, you've pretty much covered the SD45 spectrum; beyond that it's details, many of which were virtually meaningless overall.
