PA status?

Does anyone know how far the restoration has gotten on Doyle's PA? Last I heard it was in the shop.

> -=Andrew=- Pa is in the shop at Portland. Most of the rest of the interior has been stripped out. Nose door has been completely restored with original style round headlight. Old number boards have been removed and the new box-style number boards installed. Some of the roof sheeting has been removed and the new pieces are being welded in. Exterior of carbody is about ready for new steel sheeting. Old traction motor cabeling removed and new soon to go in. Electrical cabinet after that. Cab is ready for reassembly as soon as heater ducting is in.

I understand they WERE filming the restoration, but a 5-gallon can of Bondo fell off a ladder and landed on the camcorder which was sitting on a stack of particle board. The camcorder was, unfortunately, destroyed. The Bondo and lumber were OK, though, so restoration continues.

This is close to the truth Dave W., except that The Great One would never use particle board on one of his restorations. Nothing but top quality plywood for the PA.

Is the " Great One " ," O' Genius of Steam ", Arch Bishop of the Portland Diocese of the Church of the NKP" .... and the rest of the Homaged Nickanmes... Using 22/64 or 8/16 th thick ply and what grade CDX , treated outdoor siding or the expennsive Furniture grade A/A grade. Maybe plywood would work for jacketing and skirting also and when you repaint you can just run the pieces through a planer to strip them down.

Actually, the carriages of the London & North Eastern Railway in Britain were famous for being finished in teak. These would have been the carriages behind the "Flying Scotsman", the record-setting "Mallard", etc.
