I see that a brass Baldwin number plate has been listed on ebay and it appears to be from the former B&HS 2-6-2 that I rode behind as a teenager on the WK&S and later on the Wolfboro RR. I was wondering where the locomotive ended up at. The plate appears to be original, but I know some reproductions were made many years ago. Any information would be appreciated, you can post or send me a private email. I am always tryinjg to find plates that have been stolen from display or private locomotives. It is amazing what I have turned up since I started collecting in 1963.

A few years ago it had been moved to Edaville as a display. Cosmetically, it was rough and plain looking.

Actually, it was at Edaville for a good many years after Wolfboro's demise. It was placed up for sale after the recent demise of the old Edaville site. I know there was some interest by the W&W at the engine in the late 90's, but its' condition was considered as a quick deciding factor against purchase.

That would have been quiet interesting to see the B&HS 250 in service once again with the former MSC 98, considering their interchange/operational history.

Is this locomotive still at Edaville or has it been sold off?

I have heard insinuations over the years that at least two excursion lines have pursued acquisition of this loco for their operations. Whether they didn't transpire because they didn't happen, the loco's condition, or issues such as price or available money I do not know, but I never heard any follow-up other than "we're looking at her".........

Having worked as a volunteer on the Wolfeboro RR, it's really sad to see the 250 "stuffed and mounted" (not to mention her tender was lettered Boston & Maine last time I saw her).

I've heard stories she suffered some sort of freeze damage (before arriving at Edaville) but I do not know if this true...

When the handful of Wolfeboro coaches went to Roaring Camp (SCBG) in the late '80s, there was considerable interest in adding the 250 to the lot, though its condition ultimately led company officials to decide otherwise (it needed serious firebox work, if not total replacement IIRC). It's hard to imagine the thought even existed, considering street running in Santa Cruz today seems possible only by means of a kid in an orange vest and his scientist friend's souped up DaLorean.
