Makes me feel really proud and emotional to see whats happened and happening in the UK, having been heavily involved in saving Locomotives and passenger cars from scrap and seeing them running on the national network 25 years after they where sold for scrap ......well there is just no feeling to describe it.

They are the narrowest standard gauge trains in the UK with a 8ft wide body width !

Man, did I do a triple take when I saw LMS 8F "48188" starting at the beginning of this video--the number of a locomotive smashed in the fatal wreck immortalized in Ewan MacColl's BBC Radio Ballad "The Ballad of John Axon"............... I'm guessing it's a re-enactment for an anniversary of the wreck or something?

The video shows a few shots of the Tornado. This project was funded and supported by William Cook Cast Products.

William Cook Rail also owns a 141R No 568, which we here at Wasatch Railroad Contractors maintains in Switzerland. The UK has many far reaching ties to preservation.

48188 was repaired after the accident at Chapel-en-le-Frith. It worked until May 1966.

The loco in the video is 48305 renumbered for a remembrance of John Axon's heroism. It is resident at the Great Central Railway where the video clip was shot.

Wonderful stuff. I had to laugh at the bit where it said road was becoming king, followed by a shot of a 105E Anglebox "at speed"!

Recent news is that A4 Sir Nigel Gresley based at the North Yorkshire Moors railroad has been returned to service after boiler repairs. Mainline duties begin in November.

Another locomotive that shall be returning to the Rails this year is 70000 Brittania. The first of its type. Her sister 70013 Oliver Cromwell is the same class of loco.
