I could not resist commenting on the Trains Magazine newswire article about the move. Firstly we have the following quote:

Quote:
While locomotive exchanges and loans are common among tourist railroads and museums within the U.K., which has upwards of 2,000 operational steam locomotives...

2000 operational steam locomotives? According to every source I've been able to consult (including my own website) there are about 1450 steam locomotive left in the United Kingdom. Of those, about 400 are operational, as far as I know.

The second, and vastly more amusing quote is shown below:

At first, the Eisenhower, which was named Golden Shuttle until 1946, refused to budge, resisting the efforts of a come along wench and a forklift

I am glad to know the locomotive ultimately succumbed to the charms of the come along wench.
