Does anyone have or know a souce for a wheel gage for 24" gage mining railroad equipment?

Are you starting with any equipment or rail already laid, or are you wanting a place to start from scratch?

Establishing a standard back to back to use is always a compromise between the gauge (actual), any gauge widening on the curves, the radius on the rail head, the flange way width that you can find on frogs, the check gauge distance, that you can find on guard rails, also helps. After you get all that, then you can look at the profile and size of the radius at the to tread/flange interface, the wheelbase of the equipment, and thats just about all you have to use to make a determination.

I'm not aware of any gage used to check wear, etc on the wheels... in the older days there did not seem to be any clear standard like the MCB standards on larger cars. I'd suggest picking one 'standard' in terms of profile, check gage, etc. and stick as close to it as you can... you may want to consider using what your biggest, hardest-to-change locomotive is using and make everything else match as carefully as possible.

I would like to find a copy, in print or online, of the American Mining Congress wheel and track standards. We are fortunate that many manufacturers now and historically have cataloged their products in enough detail to replicate such information. Here are some google book sources you may peruse:
