Roll call - The 25 BN E9A's - how many are still around?

Having just read that Iowa Pacific has acquired three former BN E-units, I was curious as to how many of the 25 that were retired 20 years ago are still around. From what I can determine, most of them are.

Here's what I have from memory etc...additions welcome.

9900 - ?

How many were there, really? That number series 9900-9925 is actually for 26 units. . .

Which brings up, how many E-units survive today, including B-units? I know there are but single examples left of the EA, E-3, E-5, and E-7 (respectively from the B&O, ACL, CB&Q, and the PRR). The rest would be E-8s and E-9s.

It does look like this group of 26 heavily rebuilt ex-BN units may be the largest single block of the units left.

...there were only 25, as there was no 9909. The above link also has a semi-current disposition list for the BN E's; according to that list the only one scrapped upon retirement was 9900.

A couple of corrections. The Museum of Transportation in St. Louis is not "NMOT" anymore, nor has it been for quite a while now.

Also, one of the ones at MOT, not the one repainted into CB&Q livery, the 9906, was sold to Iowa Pacific about a year or two ago.

While not on topic, there are two E-6s around. One, L&N 770 is at KRM in New Haven, KY and the other is Rock Island 630.

The number's not mentioned, but Bennett Levin has the nose from one of the ex-BN units on hand in case wreck repairs are ever needed for one of his restored PRR units.

I can confirm that 9920 is the unit on display in Keller, TX.

The linked page is error plagued. The E9's sent out to MK did not just get an HEP genset. For one thing, the rebuild included 645 power assemblies on the 567 frames. It makes me wonder how accurate that list is.

I think the 2-3 at LTEX had the gensets removed through the side with torches and wouldn't be rebuildable.

One would think that 9907 could be used in a similar way that the GN painted F45 in Montana with the engine compartment being redone as a living space, lodge, office or other such idea.

Didn't IRM own the 9907 or was it owned by another party?

I do not speak for anyone but yes, I believe it is or was owned by IRM along with the E9B it donated guts towards repowering.

Minimal re-use would be better than being scrapped. It would also be a candidate for being fitted with a single power plant ala UP's E's but it need not be an EMD engine. The ultimate irony would be if a certain party looking for B units for his excursion fleet bought it, removed the nose (saving it of course), squared off the end, and turned it into working B unit.

As far as I know, here is what survives of the early E's:

1.) The only EA left is the B&0 #51 I believe at B&O Museum in Baltimore
2.) There are no E2's saved
3.) The only only E3 is ACL #501 of Glen Monhardt fame, and now at Spencer/NCTM
4.) There are no E4's saved
5.) The only E5 is the one at IRM, on the head of the Nebraska Zephyr
6.) The only E6 is Rock Island 630, not sure where it is now
7.) The only E7 is 5801 at RMofPA

I'm sure someone will correct me here, but that's what I am aware of.
